Impossible fictions / Fictions impossibles

Le deuxième Congrès International de l'Association for Studies In Fiction and Fictionality (ASIFF) / Société Internationale des Recherches sur la Fiction et la Fictionnalité (SIRFF), initialement prévu pour les 28–30 octobre 2021, a été reporté au 2-5 mars 2022 en raison de la pandémie de COVID-19. Le colloque, tenu en mode hybride au Neubauer Collegium pour la Culture et la Société à l’Université de Chicago, a rassemblé 77 participants du monde entier (39 en personne, 38 en ligne). Le thème des « Fictions Impossibles » a permis aux contributeurs d’aborder une série de questions liées à la fois à la cohérence interne des mondes fictionnels et aux contraintes externes limitant les possibilités de représentation fictionnelle. L’événement était parrainé par le Neubauer Collegium, les membres de la SIRFF/ASIFF, le France Chicago Center, la section française du Département des Langues et Littératures Romanes de l’Université de Chicago, l’Institut Universitaire de France, et l’Université Sorbonne Nouvelle. The Second International Congress of the Association for Studies In Fiction and Fictionality (ASIFF) / Société internationale des recherches sur la fiction et la fictionalité (SIRFF), was initially planned for 28–30 October 2021, and then postponed to March 2-5, 2022 due to the circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic. The conference, held in hybrid mode at the Neubauer Collegium for Culture and Society at the University of Chicago, brought together 77 participants from across the world (39 in person, 38 online). The topic of “Impossible Fictions” allowed contributors to address a range of questions related to both the internal coherence of fictional worlds and the external constraints that limit the possibilities of fictional representation. The event was sponsored by Neubauer Collegium, the membership of the SIRFF/ASIFF, the France Chicago Center, the French section of the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures at the University of Chicago, the Institut Universitaire de France, and the Université Sorbonne Nouvelle. A selection of papers from the conference is presented here. The proceedings were prepared with the support of the University of Chicago International Institute of Research in Paris.
